Since there are lots of clubs in schools,
1. Have you ever had the the experience of joining clubs (from junior high to university)?
2. How many clubs did you join?
3. What makes you join these clubs?
4. What did you learn from it?
5. If you didn't join any club, talk about the club you want to join most and why?
Topic contributed by Martin. Next turn is Judy.
Of course, I did join in many school clubs from my senior high to university. And each of them did really give me not only great memories but some communicative skill and the advancement of interpersonal relationship. For example, I used to be the leaderof the Japanese-learning club in my senior high. In the beginning, I truly did not understand how to hand the whole matters in the club. Therefore, for a while, I just felt busy but did not know what I was busy for. At that time, I felt disappointed and wondered if I was eligible for this position. After acquiring some experiences from the previous classes, I did realize how to operate the club and distribute the duties to each cadre member. In the winter vacation, we united other four school's Japanese clubs to hold the two-day activity. I learned a lot from this experience such as cooperating with other school's students, being responsible for the proceeding of the activity, and so forth. All these skills were not taught in the class but were eqally important as well. In my senior high, I also participated in the interact club. Once in a while, we would pay the visit to the nursery school or rest home nearby our school. I still remembered that once our interact club going to the nursery school taught children there to sing the Christmas song. What is more, I was designated to lead them to sing the lyrics. At first, I was quite nervous owing to the stage fright and no experience in such situation. As I started singing and children all followed me, my nerves loosed and gradually got used to it. Children's smiles really warmed my hearted and made me feel a great deal of accomplishment. To sum up, joining clubs not only enriches our interpersonal relationship but adds spices to our life.
回覆刪除Black Ditch club is a very special club. We are not the students who play musics, play sports or do community services. Instead, we are more like the little activists around the campus. We have a specific goal that is very different from others: our mission is to help the disadvantaged ones get rid of their inferior situation. In the club, people talk about social issues, read Marxism, study economics and Capitalism. Besides discussions and criticism, we take actions to make difference. For example, we call for demonstration on the discriminative dormitory rules at FJU, we attend the labor day parade on May 1, and we hold meetings and activities to tell people how disgraceful and cruel are the sweatshops.
回覆刪除It might sound like a serious and boring club for you. But it's actually a great opportunity for people to learn more about the world and the society we're in. Through discussions and lectures, I knew how Capitalism works, why labors are exploited, and what makes women and homo-sexuals being discriminated. With these thoughts and concepts in mind, when facing the social issues in Taiwan, I'm already equipped with sharp view point to analyze the issue and understand the major cause of the phenomena.
What's more, later on I found out Black Ditch is more like a family rather than simply a club. This is because the group members are constantly gathered together to have discussions and meetings. And we spend a lot of time sharing our opinions and viewpoint about different issues. Although sometimes we might have disagreement on issues and we fight a little bit, we still share the common vision of the club and are all willing to work hard to make Taiwan better.
As one of the club member who have participated in for three years, I believed that I've learned a lot from the club. For example, I had worked as a general manager of the club for one year and during that time I learned to figure out an activity plan and how to organize people to complete the whole issue. And now as a co-president of the club, I have to support the president and work as the second-representative of the club. Although I have to endure the pressure of facing media and the ones we're fighting against, I feel that after the conflicts and demonstrations, I am more confident about myself in many ways.

Although I do not join any clubs in my university life now, I used to be a baseball player in the baseball club in senior high school. I was enthusiastic about the baseball at that time. However, what followed later was a miserable. The teacher divided us in to groups and asked us to play. It was my turn, and it was in the bottom of the ninth inning. It’s 9 on 10; two out. I stood on the base and got ready to strike. The pitcher seemed to be a dangerous enemy who could throw a ball which in 100 mile per hour. I just stood there unconsciously and wait for strike out. One, two, and three! We lost the chance to win the game. Since then, I never went back to the club. Next semester, I chose to join the magic club. I had learned lots of skill to perform various magic and was hooked by the magic immediately. There were lots of happy experiences when I joined the clubs. The club members had strong relationship between each other. I love this feeling. Nevertheless, I don’t have time to join a club now in the university.
回覆刪除They are lots of activities in our department. What a pity!!!
Dear Alfee,
回覆刪除It's so nice to know that you had such a fruitful experience in clubs when you were in senior high school. When I was in senior high, I joined the cooking club. As the name suggests, in the club we learned to make some simple dishes, snacks and desserts.
I can still remember that once the Valentine's Day was just around the corner and our teacher taught us to make handmade chocolate. I made six strawberry chocolates and was planning to give half of them to my boyfriend and leave the rest half for myself. However, when I was on my way back to the classroom, I bumped into my friends and each of them took away one chocolate. In the end, there was only one chocolate left. And just right before I got into the classroom, my teacher came over to talk to me and she saw the delicious chocolate. So I let her took away the last one. Therefore, when I finally got into the classroom, the only thing I had in hand was the paper wrap of the chocolate.
Of course it was very frustrating for both of me and my boyfriend. Therefore, later on whenever I had learned to cook anything in the club, I would hide them and secretly transport them back into the classroom. So that no one would see me carrying food and take away any serving. =P
Thanks for sharing =]

Dear Martin,
回覆刪除It's really a pity that you give up baseball when you were in senior high. There is an unlimited possibility among us. You might become a great baseball player if you continue to practice hard! =] Anyway, I believe that magic club is also a very interesting place.
At FJU, we have a lot of activities in our department, too. Annual play, singing contest, cheer leading contest, English magazine, Freshmen Dance, Freshmen camp...etc. If you are very interested in these activity, you might want to join the Student Association (SA) of your department and work with your classmates to hold the activities. It will definitely make your college life busy and fruitful. Enjoy!
